Lithology and Thickness

Thickness is 100-300 m. It consists of two conformably lying thicknesses: Porzhilgin Mbr and Bortepin Mbr. Porzhilgin Mbr (50-200 m) is composed of greenish-gray claystones with layers of sandstones and siltstones. Bortepin Mbr (50-100 m) - gray and greenish-gray, in a number of outcrops reddish-brown, coarse-grained calcareous-quartz sandstones and siltstones with interlayers and lenses of organogenic limestones.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies conformably on the Late Ladinian-Norian Aktash Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain discordantly by the Toarcian-Bajocian strata.

Regional extent

It is widespread in the basins of the rivers Kastanatdjilga, Buryukurmes, Bortepa, Kuntey, Porzhilga, Khanyuly, Karakulashu.

Fossils

In Porzhilgin Mbr, including rare poorly identifiable remains of terrestrial plants: Pterophyllum sp., Tanymasia sp., Hyrcanopteris sp.

In Bortepin Mbr, throughout the section, abundant remains of Late Norian-Rhaetian pelecypods Chlamys valoniensis Defr., Myophotia aff. inflata Emmr., Raetavicula cf. contorta (Portl.), Homomya cf. totaensis Desio, Cassianella aff. fragilis Desio, Grammatodon ex gr. lycetti Moore, Pinna cf. miliaria Stopp., Indopecten glabra Dougl. (Kymly, 1973); brachiopods - Lepismatina austriaca (Suess), Sinucosta emmrichi (Suess), Rhaetina turcica (Bitt.), Triadithyris gregariaformis (Zugm.), Halorelloidea rectifrons (Bitt.). (Dagis, 1963); corals Cyathocoenia schafhäutli (Winkler), C. paradoxa Melnikova, Stylophyllopsis bortepensis Melnikova, Phacelostylophyllum zitteli (Frech), Astraeomorpha crassisepta Reuss, A. reimani Melnikova, A. multiseptata Melnikova, Pamiroseris meriani (Stoppani), P. rectilamellosa (Melnikova), P. multiseptatum (Melnikova) (Melnikova, 1968; 1971; 1972).
